Sample cover letter for Internship position at UN
intern
I am confident that I can bring substance to the UN with my experience and skills:
I believe that my multidisciplinary skills belong in the interdisciplinary UN's internships offered and that the cultural diversity is an advantage that I share in common with the Organization's principles. This provides us with a wider vision, comprehension, and understanding of world development. Since the need to figure out globalization means understanding matters of cultural, political, and economic diversification, I am convinced that my strong multicultural profile is in keeping with the comprehension of many cultural entities. I have developed writing and oral fluency in English but am also fluent in French and Arabic. Within this context, I am experienced in the diverse cultural and political perspectives of several countries, and to some extent their developmental needs as well.
I am now on my second year of Master's degree, doing a exchange semester at Smith College, Northampton, MA in the U.S. This opportunity to attend this great institution and the Five College Consortium has been given to me by the University of Geneva which wishes to promote its students International skills.
Here I'll be studying as a government and European studies major which are to me the core fields of the UN. Also the fact that this Master's degree is multidisciplinary provides me with a wider range of knowledge that covers many different disciplines such as: law, economy, political science, foreign languages and history.
Regarding the global governance field, I had the great pleasure to attend two classes with Micheline Calmy-Rey former member of the Swiss Federal Council that provided me with outstanding knowledge of international relations and the UN's functioning. Both of them were Global Governance seminars: The first one in the fall semester was a two day simulations of negotiations on Nuclear Disarmament and Non-proliferation act, representing Mexico.
The second one in the spring semester was oriented on sustainable development regarding the monitoring of greenhouse gas emission of Geneva's buildings. This project expected from us to meet with many professionals and representatives of Geneva's county. We mainly focused on the Agenda 2030.
You will not go wrong by accepting me into your internship program !
Best regards,
Myriam Grelot
