Sample cover letter for Full Time position at UNHCR

I am a holder of Master in Human Rights from Uganda Martyrs University, Nkozi in 2015; Master in Public Administration from the Islamic University in Uganda in 2010; have 25 years experience living and working in developing countries namely Uganda and East Timor; with demonstrated success in cross-cultural situations especially while working as UN Police Officer in post-conflict environment of East Timor, for one year from 2010-2011.

Serving as UN Police Advisor on Human Rights and Gender Affairs in East Timor for one year, I was on the Gender Thematic Working Group, a technical committee that developed the Policy and Plan to streamline the Police Vulnerable Persons Unit, in East Timor. This enhanced my expert knowledge and skills of working in the protection of vulnerable populations; in collaborating and cementing relations with communities in addition to training the staff and public on vulnerability concerns.

High level of both written and verbal communication skills is critical to supporting staff in the field; must be able to write and/or provide constructive feedback on grant proposals. The one year experience serving in post conflict East Timor enhanced my experience and willingness to live and work in very basic conditions for up to several weeks at a time.

I was able to lead a team that built the Police Gender Unit from one personnel to 100 personnel by exercising my desire and ability to mentor field staff; build their technical and professional capabilities. As a born again Christian I shall assist in the spiritual development of the staff.

Having worked in the Strategic Planning Department of Uganda Police, have been ably coordinating donor funded project activities, and is aware of the grant/award process, a working knowledge of donor agency requirements and a working knowledge of logical frameworks and standard indicators. I am very keen on accomplishing tasks on time and very attentive to detail.
