The main reason why I chose to apply for Unilever is down to the skills that I will hopefully acquire. When William Lever first started dealing with soap, he took a risk and started cutting up the soap into small chunks, packaging them and selling them- this in fact helped 'transform the lives of the lower classes.' This small idea made a drastic change which all down to his entrepreneurial skills and risk taking strategy. I believe that if I work for Unilever, it will give me some vital skills that I will be able to implement in the future. In addition, I chose to apply for the role of Human resources, this may seem unusual for someone who is studying a finance related degree, however as I read through the description of the HR role- it stood out more than the others. This was because of the one to one level with others, what I mean by this is that there is more hands on approach to things such as negotiating and communicating with various people. I feel as if i'm more suited to this role due to my, 'people skills' and my 'creative insights.' This may sound very cliche but as stated by the Vice President, Jonathan Donner, when faced with an issue, companies want 'third generation thinkers, solutions that can resolve the problem today but also tomorrow when the environment changes.' More importantly, Leadership is key when it comes to HR- it's all about making sure everyone's voice is heard then carrying out the task at hand.
