Sample cover letter for Internship position at UsWeekly

POSITION:

photo internship

I am _________ and I am eagerly responding to the UsWeekly 2016 photo internship listing I saw on the company’s website.

Working for the photo department at the ___________,  has me problem-solving every single day. One of the main tasks I have is to come up with photo illustrations to accompany stories when there is no live event or location that I would otherwise send photographer to. Photo illustrations are challenging, but offer the most room for creativity on my part and are thus fun to stage.  Additionally, I design illustrations on Adobe Illustrator to accompany articles, which is extremely enjoyable for me since they require a lot of creative thought. I also am also in charge of updating buttons and logos for our website and for our social media outlets such as LinkedIn and Facebook. Though I’ve dabbled in other publications involving fashion and lifestyle, my photo experience at the ______________ best exemplifies why I am qualified to fulfill the photo intern position.

In addition to my internship experience, I also think I possess the fundamental communication skills and office environment experience expected of an intern who assists in the photo department. As the current photo editor at _________, I must pitch photo ideas based on the story lineup for the following day. Communication between me and the city news desk editor is key, since the content I produce must line up with the content the news editor produces. At the same time though, I must also keep in mind the staff of photographers. If a change comes my way from the news desk, it is up to me to notify the photographers on duty, or else everything starts to slowly unravel. Prior to becoming a photo editor, I was a lifestyle and fashion writer for _________. Though my internship was virtual and based from my own computer, I found it valuable to gain the experience of sitting in on weekly pitch meetings where I would have to suggest future article ideas.

In conclusion, I know I have the passion necessary to thrive in a creative environment like that of UsWeekly. I also am quite confident that my past internship and newspaper experience has prepared me for a position in the photo department. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, my attached resumé.

I look forward to hearing from you.
