Sample cover letter for Full Time position at Vanguard

Dear Vanguard recruiter,

I am excited to apply for the Vanguard Accelerated Development Program. My ability to adapt to a corporate environment at Penn Liberty Bank will allow me to build quality relationships at Vanguard. Additionally, my active leadership skills utilized at the West Chester Golf & Country Club developed my ability to collaborate with a team on small and large-scale projects beyond the development program.

In summer 2015, I completed three months as a Financial Services Representative at Penn Liberty Bank where I demonstrated my ability to adapt to a new environment. I quickly learned how to perform 10+ common banking transactions used 90 percent of the time; within the first two days the branch managers allowed me to deal with monetary and online transactions. I reduced my dependence on co-workers by memorizing critical steps for infrequent transactions. At slower times during the day I reviewed the steps to prepare myself when the opportunity arose. Additionally, I worked at five of the ten branches which highlighted my strong interpersonal skills by forming quality relationships with 23 co-workers. I adapted to the diverse customer base and their regular tendencies as well. For example, a customer arrived every Tuesday asking for three thousand dollars in five, ten, and twenty-dollar denominations. When I arrived on Tuesdays I supplied my drawer in advance with sufficient funds to avoid disrupting my co-workers for assistance. My ability to adapt will enable me to quickly comprehend Vanguard’s divisions, strategies, and initiatives throughout the 15-month program.

Furthermore, I cooked at West Chester Golf & Country Club where I showed evidence of my leadership skills. For example, I adopted responsibilities that were outside of my job description. When inundated with 20 to 30+ food orders in a short period of time our assistant manager was not concerned with customer satisfaction or efficient operation. I immediately took the initiative to prioritize each order in a way that allowed the food to quickly make it out to the members. I made multiple orders on the grill while monitoring food in the fryer for added efficiency. In addition, I made sure the cashiers were handling their food orders, monitored the inventory, and provided direction to unattended matters or problems. My ability to take initiative and value customer relationships will help me fit in to the culture at Vanguard.

My adaptability and leadership skills developed through previous work experience has prepared me to bring value to Vanguard. Thank you for considering me; I look forward to hearing from you.
