Last summer, I honed my team leadership, brainstorming, communication, and analytical skills while working as as co-founder and lead facilitator at the African Youth Leadership Experience. I guided small groups of youths from all over East Africa in identifying pressing challenges in their home communities and designing small- scale, tangible, and creative solutions to address those challenges. The youths developed Leader Learning Plans consisting of clear and concise visions for their projects, measurable and attainable goals, and resourceful and effective strategies to aid in the implementation of their projects. This role required strong analytical skills, ability to give quick, constructive, and specific feedback, and tremendous clarity in communication given the cultural diversity of the youths with whom I was working.

Additionally, two summers ago, I held a joint internship at the Council on Foreign Relations and Global Kids. In this internship, I did a wide range of research on different macroeconomic issues and shared the findings in interactive presentations to thirty high school seniors from underserved communities in New York. Afterwards, the students engaged a senior public sector leader in a conversation on the topic of my workshop. It is to this experience that I trace the onset of my interest in finance and economics.
