It is with great interest that I submit this letter as an application for the position of Technician A in the Infection and Immunity Department at the Columbia University Medical Center, as advertised on indeed.com. With over a year of experience in various academic labs in the fields of chemistry, biology, and physics throughout my undergraduate college career, and a Bachelors of Science in Human Biology in addition to a second major in Psychology, I believe I would be an effective match for this position with your company.

In my studies, I worked in both team-oriented as well as self-directed environments in several experiments, collecting specimens, maintaining a lab notebook, and analyzing data to be used in reports. Examples of basic lab equipment and procedures used during my time include compound light microscopes, gel electrophoresis to be used for western blot, southern blot, and similar techniques in DNA detection, as well as thermal cyclers to amplify segments of DNA via PCR. Other lab equipment used includes centrifuges, micropipettes, etc for preparation of simple solutions and cell culture samples to be tested.

In addition to my laboratory experience in biology and chemistry some of my specific related course work and achievements include:

• Completed coursework on Research Methods in Human Biology
• Completed CITI training program for protection of research with human subjects via Institutional Review Board
• Prepared research proposal on the long-term effectiveness of a low calorie diet versus a low carb diet outlining specific subjects, costs, methodology, and statistical analyses.
