RE: Application for Deloitte Restructuring Services Summer Internship

I am a business undergraduate at the Singapore Management University (SMU) currently in my penultimate year of study that is looking to pursue a career in strategy consulting and business modelling. Through my experiences in work and school, I have developed a keen interest in the dynamic and challenging nature of consultancy. Hence, I am writing to express my interest in the summer internship program with Deloitte’s restructuring services. I believe this opportunity at your company will provide me with an exceptional understanding business restructuring and consulting. Last summer, I interned at Business Insights, the internal consulting department of American Express. I worked on analyzing real-world behavioral card member information to identify opportunities and gaps in consumer spending patterns. These findings were then presented to clients and senior management to aid in their strategy formulation process. I also spear-headed 2 cross market studies and formulated competitor analysis models, which supplemented management decisions. All in all, my internship with Business Insights provided me with a better understanding of consulting in consumer markets. In order to get a broader exposure to consulting in different sectors, I was selected for a technoprenuership study mission, where a handpicked group of 12 student consultants travelled to Moscow, Russia to work with technology-based startups. I worked with 2 budding companies to improve their business plans. With our detailed and constant feedback, one of the startups, EasyWallet, was successfully awarded USD$20,000 in seed funding. Through this study mission, I was able to apply my problem solving skills in a new industry and country, thus providing me with a better understanding of problems potentially hampering organizational growth from the various stakeholders’ perspectives. Apart from my work experiences, my coursework and CCA commitments in SMU has also equipped me with a highly developed analytical mindset, creativity in problem solving and project management skills. Despite my CCA responsibilities, I was placed on the Dean’s List for exceptional academic performance in both my years in SMU, in addition to serving as a teaching assistant for Statistics. Hence, I am confident that I will be able to adapt and excel in the dynamic and challenging environment at Deloitte.
