POSITION:

investment banking analyst

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am a student at (...) interested in interviewing for the M&A Analyst position. I believe I have the motivation, intellectual curiosity and analytical aptitude required to succeed at this position.

I am specifically interested in working in Mergers and Acquisitions, an area that I feel I have suitable skills for. I can demonstrate a high level of analytical proficiency through my 1st class degree in (....) obtained from the  (.....). During my degree, I worked with complex problems and analyzed large data sets. Furthermore, I am currently applying these skills to problems in finance, which has been very stimulating and has provided me with strong career motivation.

Alongside excellent analytical skills, I developed key interpersonal skills through my Industrial Placement with (..). During nine months I worked closely with a number of teams, built strong relationships and consistently delivered high quality work. Moreover, this placement gave me the opportunity to develop skills such as communication and teamwork in a professional environment.

I am attracted to this position by the opportunity to gain responsibility and exposure to clients at an early stage of my career – something that I would enjoy. I also believe that there has been a structural shift in the M&A market, with firms valuing impartial advice from independent investment banks – seen in the doubling of market share for independents over the past decade. As such, I am confident that this position offers the best opportunity for an engaging start to my career, and I believe that I have the skills and character to make an impact at the company.

I look forward to hearing if I have progressed to the next stage of the application process.

Yours faithfully,
