Dear Sir or Madam,
I am currently a Junior at NYU’s Stern School of Business, studying finance and management. I am applying to the Equity Investments Summer Analyst Position at Blackrock. My diverse background, along with the skills I’ve developed through my education make me a perfect candidate for the position.
What interests me most about the Equities Group at Blackrock is the exposure to various investment approaches, and the research and knowledge of the macroeconomic climate required to excel. Analyzing equity investments requires an intense passion for financial markets and current affairs, something that I have developed through my education and my job at NYU’s Investment Office. My classes, like Corporate Finance and Economics for Global Business, have shown me the different factors that must be taken into consideration prior to making an investment. As an intern at XXX Investment Office, I was shown the different types of investment strategies used to meet necessary returns on a school’s endowment, and how that strategy may differ from that of a firm. These have contributed to my desire to learn more about the world of equities, and I think my diversified perspective would be an addition to Blackrock.
I currently serve as the Marketing Chair and Career Events Planner for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund at XXX. HSF@XXX is a club dedicated to engendering Latino Community within the school. I have found that there is not nearly as much Latin American pride in a university setting as there is for other ethnicities. Many feel the need to suppress their heritage in order to better fit in, which is exactly what HSF tries to combat. In response to this, I helped organize events like De Colores, a night devoted to what it means to be a Latino through music, dance and poetry, to an overwhelming response. It became clear that the pride was there, but people needed an outlet to express it. It feels good to serve as a leader for one of these outlets, and I look forward to finding other ways to help Latinos express themselves.
