Sample cover letter for Internship position at gwinnett
student affairs
To Dr. Funwi Ayuninjam:
, and I am interested in the International Student and Scholar Coordinator
position at Georgia Gwinnett College. I believe that I would be a good fit for this position. I will be completing
my Master’s Degree in Personal Counseling, emphasis in College Student Affairs in April. I currently work in
the office of Undergraduate Admissions – specifically facilitating Scholarship Day and working with high
ability students. During that time I used E-Recruiter and Banner to help facilitate students’ application needs. I
was also a Donaghey Scholar at the University of Little Rock in Arkansas and had the benefit of traveling
abroad with this program. My experience studying abroad with this program started a lifelong love of travel and
new cultures. I have visited Japan, Mexico, Canada, France, and England.
While at the University of West Georgia, I worked with our office of International Services and
Programs during a practicum experience. I was given a cursory overview of the different visas, SEVIS, and the
required paperwork needed for international students. I also helped plan International Night, acquiring
donations from around town to auction off in order to supply welcome bags for our international students. I
would be thrilled to be given the opportunity to learn more, and would be happy to help international students
find their place at Georgia Gwinnett College.
The personal counseling portion of the degree would be just as important in this position as the College
Student Affairs portion. In order to help these students transition to Georgia Gwinnett College, it’s important to
have a working knowledge of listening skills, empathy, and student development theory. International students
need someone that they can talk to comfortably, someone that can assist them intelligently, and someone that
can understand the confusion of integrating into a new culture.
Getting in on the ground floor of a relatively new institution is an exciting prospect to a new
professional in higher education. I would love to contribute my passion for students, creative and innovative
ideas, and strong work ethic to Georgia Gwinnett College! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel
free to contact me. Thank you for your time and consideration.
