Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to apply for the GBM Markets Graduate Programme at RBS. Currently studying third year in BSc Accounting & Finance at the LSE, I am confident that I will make a successful analyst at RBS.
My quantitative skills have been proven by the distinctive results in A-level Mathematics and Gold Medal in Senior Mathematics Challenge and further enhanced through a variety of quantitative modules that I have been studying at LSE. My teamwork and leadership skills have been illustrated throughout my experience of being the president of the LSE Student Union (SU) Vietnam Society. This challenging position strengthened my interpersonal skill, the ability to effectively manage tight deadlines and perform well under pressure. Furthermore, my analytical and communication skills have been sharpened during my summer internship as an equity research analyst at Aperios Partners Hedge Fund. My main responsibly was to produce in-depth fundamental research and financial modeling of technology companies in emerging markets. I also participated in weekly meeting with Investment Management team which involved pitching my investment ideas to the portfolio manager and the investment committee.
During summer 2009, I set up my own portfolio investing in the Vietnam stock market with my savings. It was a huge success. I made a profit of about 50% during 2 months of trading. My strategy was to mainly focus on real estate companies that possessed estates and lands which were undervalued due to the absence of recent revaluations. As I speculated, those firms soon announced the revaluation of those assets; some of their stock values actually increased very sharply. The experience has fostered my ambition of becoming a trader and has strengthened my decision making and problem solving skills. My desire is to work in the GBM Markets Division where I will be given the opportunity to expose myself to fast-paced financial markets.
Having had the opportunity to know more about RBS through the LSE internship fair in October 2010, I was truly inspired by the outgoing personality, passion and talent of all the RBS representatives that I talked to. I am fascinated with your plan to remake RBS as one of the world's most admired, valuable and stable universal banks and I am passionate about being a part of that grand scheme. However, what attracted me the most were your commitment to foster potential talent and the flat structure that allows junior employees to freely communicate with senior ones. I also believe that the diversity of people and the team oriented culture at RBS will make it a dynamic environment to work in.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.
