Dear Hiring Manager:
I am very interested in applying for the Entry-Level Field/Office Engineerposition in Kiewit Energy in The Woodlands, TX as posted in the company website. As a Chemical Engineering graduate from Louisiana State University (LSU), I am confident that my passion to learn, along with my strong academic performance and my military experience, have prepared me for such a dynamic opportunity. It will allow me the chance to contribute as a Field Engineer in a highly effective and professional manner. What really inspires me to work in Kiewit, one of North America’s largest and most respected construction and engineering organizations, is its diversity and culture, where more than 22,000 staff and craft employees work together to offer construction and engineering services in a variety of markets. I believe my academic and technical skills combined with my work experiences will allow me to provide innovative ideas in construction services in Kiewit.
As a Stryker Mechanic in the Army, I performed field and sustainment level maintenance on various vehicle systems to include suspension systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems and fire extinguisher systems all while following the shop safety procedures. I diagnosed and troubleshot malfunctions in the vehicles by following technical manuals and collaborated in a team. I implemented excellent work plans by paying attention to details and subsequently generated innovative solutions in order to succeed our mission when conducting operations in the field. In addition, I also learned to work with my senior officers and my fellow colleagues to develop effective plans in vehicle maintenance. My teamwork skills and my experience with maintenance in vehicles will help me to contribute as a team member and provide technical solutions in mechanical, electrical and heavy industrial construction in Kiewit.
As an Undergrad Summer Intern in University of Texas, I performed laboratory experiments in Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) to study the effect of hydrocarbons in high viscosity oil. In my Senior Year in LSU, I took Unit Operations Laboratory where I designed and conducted experiments, collected data, analyzed samples, wrote laboratory reports and presented term papers. My ability to work independently as well as a part of a team and my background will help me to develop, identify, implement and integrate my Engineering skills in the construction plans in Kiewit.
Furthermore, l possess excellent communication, leadership and interpersonal skills, developed through my participation in such organizations as the American Institute of Chemical Engineers’ Car Team (Competition), and as the Historian for Golden Key at LSU. Although I took leadership roles above, I still maintained a high academic standing. My leadership experience, combined with my time management skills, dedication and enthusiasm, will enable me to make an immediate and valuable impact in Kiewit.
I would be honored to be able to contribute to highly intellectual, dynamic and international team like you. I look forward to an opportunity to discuss my application further.
