I am a 3rd year undergraduate at Singapore Management University (SMU), majoring in finance and operations management, with a specific focus in consumer banking and payment technologies. I am writing to express my interest in the MasterCard summer internship program. With diverse product lines and global networks, MasterCard would provide one of the richest learning opportunities about the payments industry. With meticulous attention to detail and a strong desire to excel, I am capable of providing consistently high quality work. I embrace challenging problems, tackling them head on often in innovative manners. Most importantly, I am a proactive and independent learner, with a keen interest to explore new areas and skills to improve my capabilities so as to remain flexible in the dynamic consumer banking and payments industry. My records of school work, work experiences and CCA engagements demonstrate attributes that would make me a valuable employee at MasterCard:  Analytical Skills: My internship last summer with Business Insights, the internal consulting department at American Express, enabled me to hone my analytical skills. I worked with large databases, analyzing real-world behavioral card member information to identify opportunities and gaps in consumer spending patterns. I also spear-headed 2 cross market studies and formulated competitor analysis models, drawing insights, which supplemented management decisions and business development strategies.  Tenacity: As a results-driven individual, I constantly strive for excellence. Despite my CCA responsibilities, I was placed on the Dean’s list for exceptional academic performance for 2 years consecutively, in addition to my role as teaching assistant for a statistics module. Similarly, whilst working at SingTel, my perseverance and tenacity led to an 80% increase in sales of newly introduced electronic services within just 3 months.  Hunger to Grow: The key strength I possess is a hunger to learn and, grow my skills and abilities. Whilst interning at American Express, I often offered to assist in projects in other departments, on top of my regular job requirements. I also regularly attend supplementary courses held by industry professionals in my areas of interest such as payment solutions, consumer banking and international trade to gain a greater breadth and depth of information. I am confident that my creative problem solving skills, objective decision making and attitude will meet the key responsibilities required to excel in this position.
