I am writing to apply for a position as a consulting analyst with Mercer. I understand that Mercier is the market leader in human resource consulting services and has an excellent reputation as an employer, named to Forbes magazine’s list of America’s Best Employers.

I have always had an interest in consulting, and my postgraduate study helped to further this interest. The modules I took involved mathematical, financial, insurance and accounting areas’ studying. I have proven analytical, interpersonal and technical aptitudes and possess sound commercial awareness. I am proactive and highly focused with strong investigative skills, an analytical and logical approach to problem solving and am adept at handling and interpreting data. I have been recommended for exemptions from six subjects of the Institute’s actuarial exams.

I am hard working and highly motivated. I enjoy acquiring new skills and I am a fast learner. I learned how to adapt quickly to new environments by living and studying in different countries. I had experiences of overseas studies in UK, US, Australia and Singapore while I was born in China. Because I am not threatened by unfamiliar information, I will excel in a consulting role in which I am required to go into new situations and pick up new competencies quickly.

I developed my communication skills during internship, liaising with colleagues from six subsidiaries both over the email and in person. I was involved in preparing consolidated financial statements, including collecting separate financial statements from subsidiaries and organizing accounts-related documents, for which I had to report my findings to the manager so that errors could be corrected. I was also involved with basic financial tasks, including producing presentation slides for a director and preparing simple statements, and this has helped to further my interest in the area.
