Dear Sir or Madam,

I am currently a penultimate student studying Economics and Business with East European Studies at University College London, and am interested in joining the Investment Analyst Internship Program for the 2015 intake.

The possibility of making a critical difference to a client’s organisation is hugely motivating for me. The fact that the outcome of each Mercer’s advice to its clients is so significant and that financial gains from each project are measurable is another aspect of the work in Mercer that interests me.

Alongside my degree, I led a team of three to participate in the 2014 Chicago Mercantile Exchange futures trading competition with the aspiration to apply my understanding of employees’ motivation and use my academic knowledge in economics in the field of futures trading. Using results from our analysis of prices and volume, trading ideas generation and study of the correlation of different asset classes, we produced a trading plan that enabled the team to make profit in the competition. I enjoy the process of creating and executing a strategy.

I am hugely motivated by the opportunity to build relationships with clients, colleagues and the community. As an example, interns will be dealing with routine queries received from clients, investment managers and stakeholders. By joining Mercer, I could apply my academic knowledge and skills, which I had gained from my degree in Economics and Business with East European Studies. I would like to work for a company that encourages early responsibility. Therefore, I will be able to contribute to the team as well. As a University College London’s Investment Society member, I am committed to help other members to enhance their knowledge in Finance. In this academic year, I have delivered one workshop to members on the topic of role of Investment Banks in the capital market.

I am particularly interested in a career at Mercer because I am looking for a career that would give me the opportunity to gain a solid foundation in decision making, from finance to strategy and to consolidate my commercial knowledge.
