Sample cover letter for Internship position at mission trip

To Whom It May Concern:

I heard about your mission trip to [...] from my grandparents, [...]. For many years, since I can remember, my grandparents had traveled to [...] for this annual trip. I always thought it was exciting when I heard stories about the trip, and how wonderful it would be to travel to help those in need. In the past, I have volunteered at food pantries, and have now joined my church, [...], volunteering in the youth [...]. Our volunteering efforts help our local community with those in need of assistance from delivering food to those less fortunate, to assisting the elderly with tasks they’re unable to do on their own, such as gardening, weeding, washing windows, cleaning for them, etc. Volunteering on the mission trip to [...] will allow me to pursue my passion to help those in need.

I have aspirations of becoming a doctor, specifically a plastic surgeon. Having been told by my grandparents that I have a caring nature about me, I would really benefit from participating on this mission trip. Additionally, I would be able to facilitate with communicating with the patients who speak Spanish. I greatly appreciate the opportunity to join the mission trip.
