To further my studies, I moved from the Caribbean to the Netherlands. During my bachelor degree in Small Business & Retail Management I took on another challenge by completing an internship in South Africa. These character-building experiences allowed me to further develop my ability to communicate on various levels with people from different nationalities, and to effectively function in fast paced and multicultural environments. Team sports such as soccer and baseball shaped me into a collaborative team player. My experiences as a fitness coach (hobby) and a part-time student job at IKEA taught me to be result-oriented, pragmatic and customer minded. In addition, by training myself everyday (fitness) and by setting up an online business for innovative sportswear I learned to be independent, disciplined, mentally strong and flexible.

My bachelor degree in Small Business & Retail Management gave me a solid base and understanding of business strategy and the process of strategy development. My master degree in Supply Chain Management taught me about supply chain processes, process improvement and supply chain strategies among others. My master’s thesis focused on sustainability and sustainable supply chains. The whole process of identifying and solving strategic issues naturally appeals to my analytical capabilities and information seeking attitude. As a consultant during my internships in South Africa and the MatrixMethode Institute, I did a lot of market research for business strategy development purposes.Furthermore, I became acquainted with continuous process improvement (CPI) and Lean manufacturing during a university group project at Scania, where we had the task to improve the company’s storage process so it could match production line standards. On a strategic level, we found that there was a mismatch between the company’s operational resources and market requirements. A proactive attitude, effective communication and teamwork were crucial during this period. In addition, throughout the master and bachelor I learned how to prioritize and to efficiently manage time and deadlines by balancing a full course workload, a part-time job and extracurricular activities.
