Dear Sir/Madam

I am seeking a summer Analyst position with Nomura from July of 2016. I not only have a strong interest and desire to pursue a career in the financial world but also the core skills and experience in order to thrive in this position

While I have always had an interest in banking and finance, the financial crisis of 2008 was a pivotal event for me, which sharply brought into focus the role of the banking industry and how just one particular sector in the economy can have such a profound impact globally. My interest in a career in banking was confirmed after completing a six week summer internship with the Investment Product and Services (IPS) Department in UBS. Within IPS I was rotated around various desks including the Capital Markets, Portfolio Advisory and within Distribution Management, to gain a wider understanding of how the department completes its objectives. As I was assigned to the structured products desk I evolved an in-depth look into the various combinations of basic asset classes and how they were used as solutions for clients. Through such exposure I have developed a keen interest in how structured products can be tailor made to clients to provide them with the right level of risk and return for any situation in the market, whether bullish, bearish or flat. Therefore I would like to obtain experience in the (equities derivatives desk) trading department of the Global Markets division.

Through achieving a 2:1 in a BSc Accounting and Finance and studying an MSc in Finance, I have been able to develop my keen interest in finance, whilst improving my Strong analytical and numerical skills. This was evident in my recent internship with J.Safra Sarasin Bank where I conducted research and statistical analysis into the existence of momentum and market timing in stock markets, where I acquired skills to identify and trade on market momentum based on graphical evidence.

Nomura’s Global Markets division is well recognized as a market leader due to its innovative approach, as its implementation of the integrated Global Markets platform has enabled the bank to supply a number of financial products; with a solid track record of delivering exceptional services to its clients. I am particularly impressed with the division’s efforts in Fixed Income, as it not only offers clients the best possible execution quality, but also provides unique sets of algorithms that can be customized towards a client’s strategy to help them make the best decision. This is evident as Nomura was able to deliver revenues at the same level as the previous year even though the fee pool declined due to uncertain macroeconomic conditions, such as the announcement of the Bank of Japan’s QE program last October to now buy 80 trillion Yen of bonds a year.
