Sample cover letter for Internship position at procter and gamble

POSITION:

analyst

At this stage, applicants need to attach a covering letter detailing their motivation for applying, along with a CV. The letter should be addressed 'Dear P&G Western European Talent Supply Team'. The CV can either be pasted into the application form or added as an attachment.

You should use your motivation letter to answer the question ‘Why have you applied to P&G?’. Be as specific as possible about this: if your answer could apply to any other company, it needs to be rewritten. There are a number of factors you could consider to help tailor your answer, including:

  • P&G’s culture. What is it about the working environment at P&G that appeals to you? This could be something like diversity and inclusion, which is high up on P&G’s agenda; it employs people from 54 different nationalities in the UK and Ireland alone, and women represented 42.3% of global management roles in 2011. Or it could be its emphasis on sustainability, with projects like the P&G Capital Clean Up (clearing up London for the Olympic Games). Whatever it is, be as detailed as possible.
  • Your long-term career. P&G’s recruitment is governed by a ‘build from within philosophy’ under which all new recruits are viewed as potential leaders of the future; it is this attitude that earned the company the number one spot on Chief Executive Magazine’s 2012 list of the 40 best companies for leaders. How did this influence your decision to apply? Remember also that one of P&G’s core values is leadership, which involves having ‘a clear vision of where we’re going’, so try to show that you have thought carefully about your career path.
  • The business area itself. Your motivation letter is also an opportunity to explain your interest in the particular area you’ve applied for. If you’re applying to customer business development, perhaps it’s the customer interaction that attracts you. Or if you’re looking to get into research and development, maybe it’s the opportunity to work on new products for some of your favourite brands.
