Whilst there are many highlights from my work experience, there is one event that I feel stands out from the others. The team received an invitation to join as co-investor on an eight figure investment opportunity with one caveat: we would need to conduct the due diligence in less than two weeks, as the start-up’s board was meeting in two weeks to close the financing round. The associate and I spent four days conducting company, market, and competitor research; all while building a valuation model and writing the investment memorandum justifying the amount raised to our investment committee. Before presenting the opportunity to the board for approval, my immediate Managing Director asked for my opinion about whether they should go forward with the investment. I was thrilled that my opinion factored in the decision and I greatly appreciated the director’s vote of confidence in the work that I had performed.
