Dear Recruiting Manager
My name is Deng Shaquan and I am currently a Master of Engineering student at University of Hong Kong. I spoke to Olivia Cai and Hojae Choi in J.P. Morgan’s campus recruitment talk at HKU, and they inspired me that J.P. Morgan’s investment banking energy team and debt capital market team is very competitive in Asia’s investment banking market./
I believe my education at The University of Hong Kong, internship experience at BNP Paribas and China Merchants Securities will contribute significantly to J.P. Morgan.
During my internship at China Merchants Securities, I participated in three asset-backed securitization projects in the Investment Banking Department. One of the projects was helping China’s largest credit card issuer to securitize its USD 314M non-performing loan. While it was the world’s first deal in non-performing credit card loans, I demonstrated strong analytical (R programming) skills and managed to handle multi-tasks – when the deal was completed, I got excellent feedback from my tutor and the project leader. I learnt how to collaborate with people, coordinate and organize workflow in a team. At the project due diligence stage, as the deputy team leader, I was in charge of the daily project operation and agenda planning. While working with people more senior than me, I contributed to make their work easier.
While working for my clients on ABS projects, I was excited how investment banking could help corporations, financial institutions connect to the capital market. Fascinated by the professional financial advisory work delivered by top investment banks, I feel I am curious and excited to learn and be part of the business – especially in debt capital market.
I attended the campus presentation and learnt your uniquely designed summer program – the mentorship and high quality training arrangement appeals most to me compare to other banks.
