Sample cover letter for Internship position at shell
Graduate Programme
I would like to apply for the position ... at ... that was publish in Indeed.com. I am currently pursuing my masters in Civil Engineering – track Transport & Planning at Delft University of Technology, which I will finish in December this year.
Before pursuing my master studies, I worked in the department of design as a technical professional at Antea Group Colombia for ten months, applying my skills in a range of projects including field experience in soil perforations and design blueprints in AutoCAD for oil locations, pipelines and hydraulic systems in open pits. As a result of my work, I had to deal with a variety of stakeholders in different parts of the country with difficult environments and maintaining active relationships with group members and staff. Furthermore, during the ten months I was resident of civil engineering in Proyectos Civiles S&M LTDA, I was able to distinguish myself as a responsible, disciplined and self-motivated person. In this job, I was engaged in projects of construction, my tasks included the preparation of reports, elaborations of drawings and supervision of different projects always meeting time and budget constraints to cope with the proposed standards.
In contrast to the sector of my previous work experience, I perceived that the area of traffic and transport represents a growing issue in modern cities. For that reason, I decided to enrol myself at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. Some of the courses I took in my master that could be relevant for this position are: Geometric Design of Roads and Railways, Traffic Management and Control, Transport and Spatial Planning, Design and Control of Public Transport Systems and Traffic Safety. Furthermore, I did an internship in Antea Group Nederland about the comparison of the bicycle networks and policies between the Netherlands and Bogotá, Colombia. Currently, I am working on my master project which consists of analysing the interaction between vulnerable road users (cyclists and pedestrians) and autonomous vehicles (namely, the WEpods), this project started with a wide literature review of self-driving vehicles followed by the data collection on field, the current stage is the analysis with the adequate statistical tests (SPSS software).
Taking into account the skills mentioned above, I am highly confident that I can apply my knowledge in the benefit of your firm. Some of the tasks that fit my profile are interpret transportation data, formulate traffic impact analyses and design facilities for cyclists and pedestrians. What attracts me to this position is the possibility to be part of the transportation group in Boston to gain experience in this generational company to empower my career.
