Sample cover letter for Internship position at shell
finance internship
I am a third year undergraduate student at the London School of Economics and am on course to achieve a first class honours in BSc Management, with the intention of going on to undertake MSc Economics next year.
Nonetheless, my real desire is to hone my intellectual strength in the financial industry, and the Shell Assessed Internship programme offers an unrivalled opportunity to do so. Shell is one of the biggest companies in the world and is a pioneer in technology; investing $1bn each year in research and development, constantly improving the breadth of forms of energy resources it produces, as well as the sustainability. I initially was attracted to the prospect of working at Shell due to the revolutionary Prelude FLNG project in Australia. This project really caught my eye and exemplifies that Shell is at the forefront of innovation and change, creating a workplace environment in which I can use my creativity and problem solving ability to help make a positive impact on the world. Due to the great ambitions and forward thinking of the company, as well as of myself, I believe Shell is an ideal place for me to challenge myself everyday and therefore my learning potential at the firm would be boundless. Furthermore, throughout the internship at Shell you are paired with a mentor and a professional, allowing you to get feedback and develop new skills first hand.
Having a strong background in mathematics, as well as an interest in finance as reflected by my university module choices, this is the division I believe I am most well suited. Obtaining high first class marks in Statistical models and Data Analysis, and Further Quantitative Methods (Mathematics), my ability to problem solve and analyse data is proven. Additionally, in within Finance, you are able to work on projects across the entire company. This further increases my desire to work in Finance as I find the diversity and scope of work I could be doing, ranging from Management and Financial Accounting to Business Controls to Mergers and Acquisitions, very appealing. The Mergers and Acquisitions division is particularly interesting to me as I can see how Shell gains a competitive advantage outside of pure technological innovation.
During my internship at Deloitte, I gained an insight into the finance industry. My team’s finance related case study presentation was very well received showing my ability to work in a team and create innovative solutions to complex problems. Furthermore, deciding to be one of my group’s only presenters displays my innate proactivity, confidence and curiosity. Taking part in a multitude of extra curricular activities such as Muay Thai, football and the LSE hedge fund society again showcases how comfortably I integrate into teams, but also my organisational skills and commitment to achieving my goals.
With my capacity for hard work and substantial motivation, I am confident that I would have a lot to contribute during a career at Shell. Thank you for considering me in what I hope will be a first step in that direction.
