Re: Summer Placement – Rail Automation (Glasgow) 10 January 2016

Dear Siemens HR Team,

I am currently studying year 2 of Chemical Engineering at the University of Surrey. I am an academic and hard-working young man, maintaining an overall 1st class in my first year of study. I enjoy challenges and see them as an opportunity to grow and put to test what I have learnt. For this reason, concepts such as fluid dynamics and mass/energy balances have been my favorite modules thus far.

Due to the nature of my modules I have developed various competencies and concepts such as:

  • Analytical analyzing
  • Financial management
  • Problem solving
  • Process engineering
  • Manufacturing design and materials
  • Pipe characteristics
  • Sustainable development
  • I have proved to quickly become competent in applying these skills using computer programs such as MATLAB and Microsoft Software for both Mac and Windows operating systems. I am also familiar with component design software such as Solid-Works, which I used at the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

In terms of extra curricular activities, I am a fitness enthusiast and manage to attend training sessions five times a week. Due to my cultural diversity I joined the Kuwaiti Society at Surrey University as well as the Model United Nations Society (MUN). I participate weekly in current affairs debates for MUN.

I am particularly interested in a summer placement with Siemens Rail Automation due to the nature of the work I will be doing. From project management to system design, it offers a good mix of business management and engineering application, which is exactly what my skill set is inclined to.

    Yours sincerely,

    Xxxx, xxxx
