Dear Sir/Madam,
I am writing to apply for the Shell Graduate Programme in Finance currently advertised on the company’s website. I think I have the skills and abilities required to make a valuable contribution to your organisation.
I believe that my qualifications are a suitable match for this role. I hold a BSc in Accounting and it is expected that I will get my MSc in Finance and Accounting early next year. Both degrees have a strong finance component covering the basic skills of this role.
I have a great passion for the energy sector, something which has driven me to pursue a prospective career. Energy plays an indispensable part in our life. Most daily activities cannot proceed without energy. As a leading UK business specialising in producing and supplying energy, Shell accounts for around 13% of the UK’s total oil and gas production. Reportedly, the company makes a fuel delivery somewhere in the UK roughly every two minutes. The world’s growing energy demands also makes Shell increasingly attractive. Due to outstanding reputation of the company I am fully confident that Shell is my top choice of employment.
I find working in Finance team particularly interesting due to its challenging nature, plus its crucial position to the energy giant. The Programme involves a wide range of real finance projects. It will be a great honour for me to learn how to maximise value for a large company. In addition, it is a unique opportunity to see how all functional divisions in a large company operate and link together. I can work closely with teams from diverse businesses and enrich my experience of working under a friendly and inviting environment.
I have already acquired sufficient professional experience in the field of finance. The valuable experience exposed me to professional world and managing a team of workers. It enabled me to develop a range of transferable skills, which include project scheduling and planning, tracking costs and managing budgets. I consider myself to be a strong team player with excellent communication and organisational skills.
I have started learning ACCA qualification since postgraduate study. The Finance Graduate Programme also provides training and support in study of professional qualifications. I am fully confident that professional and in-depth knowledge in addition to school study can make me eligible to be the future leader of Shell.
I am excited about the opportunity of this post and it offers the exact challenge that I am looking for. Given the opportunity to join this Graduate Programme I will use it to my full advantage in order to prove that I can be a long-term asset to your organisation. I do hope you will consider me for the position and I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
