Next Challenge: What is the next wave of "dupe culture" products? |

Issue #1: Traditional polymers used in 3D printing have poor chemical resistance.
Conventional polymeric materials used for 3D printing include, but are not limited to, PLA (polylactic acid), ABS (Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene) & Nylon. Categorized as amorphous polymers, these materials have excellent dimensional stability but poor chemical resistance.
Issue #2: We've tried semi crystalline PP instead, but it has its owns drawbacks during the 3D printing process.
Semi crystalline PP (polypropylene) could be a potential alternative to compensate for the chemical resistance. However, it results in heavy warping when subjected to the 3D printing process. The warpage is due to a different cooling and solidification process resulting in high stress. Along with warpage, polypropylene does not stick to the bed and has poor interfacial adhesion in the 3D printing process.
Propose a NEW formulation to reduce warpage and eliminate poor interfacial adhesion of the polypropylene filament while 3D printing. Specifically, answer the following:
- What is your proposed PP formulation?
- How does your formulation reduce warpage during 3D printing process?
- How does your formulation reduce or eliminate poor interfacial adhesion of PP during the 3D printing process?
Consider: Tight dimensional tolerance +/- 0.05 mm should be achieved on the diameter of 3D filament.
*Your proposed formulation should be novel and not currently patented.
